--New Paragraph-- All in all quite an enjoyable film with a very simple plot and a disappointing ending. but i will give credit where credit is due, and there was one thing i did like about the movie.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

The material plays to [Burton's] strengths ... he's more interesting as a stylist than a storyteller. PG (Quirky Situations|Mild Language|Action), fantasy, Don't get me wrong, I do like Johnny Depp. My first massive problem with the film is the reactions from the children through the film. The show itself treads its own way for the most part too. Please click the link below to receive your verification email. The first twenty minutes, in a grandiose fashion, leads us to a giant man named Willy Wonka who can put the world on it's toes by putting gold tickets inside five candy bars. I thought that this film relied more on visuals and effects to try and entertain, while the original grabbed your attention with memorable performances, well executed storytelling and charm. the movie just wasn't funny.

I respect the fact that Burton was trying to make something much closer to Dahl's novel than the 70s adaptation but he gets lost in the visuals and Depp's misguided weirdness. This movie may have been considered good only if you have never seen one: the original movie two: you have never read the book and three: you have never seen a johnny depp movie. Tim Burton's take on the legendary tale of eccentric chocolate maker Willy Wonka and young dreamer Charlie Bucket is a film of meticulous design, it is meant to be a children movie but "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" plays out better as a quirky adult fantasy adventure with a PG rating. I like Johnny Depp and I loved the original. Don’t worry, it won’t take long. And there is a segment where Burton pays "tribute" to Stanley Kubrick's "2001", and it's all but blasphemous to people like me who literally worship classic films. Growing up, my favorite book was, easily, "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory".

It is in every way a genuine Tim Burton-movie, stacked with beautiful imagery, wacky humor and bizarre characters, but at the same time faithful enough to the spirit of the novel. Cinemark

Come on. I won't say who he reminded me of.. anyone who's seen the film would know and I don't want to spoil the pleasant surprise for those of you who haven't yet had the honour. I loved the book as a child and loved the original film with Gene Wilder for its own original contributions...perhaps I'm biased.

The oompa-loompa's are without personality and their songs are mostly unintelligible. This was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

This is a great tale to reinforce that wealth does not trump poverty and that good guys can finish first. The Chocolate Room, where the Germanic Gloop gets his comeuppance, has the sylvan seductiveness of Klingsor's magic castle in Wagner's Parsifal. Don't have an account? Those Oompa-Loompas are the beat, and soul, of Burton's finest movie since "Ed Wood": a madhouse kiddie musical with a sweet-and-sour heart. Each chamber also has its distinctive character. Charlie himself looks like one of the drawings, and the Bucket house is so much like the illustrations it caused me to realize that Burton is as visual as any movie director can be. I have seen Charlie & The Chocolate Factory last night and though I usually don't care very much in giving my opinion, the journey M. Burton and his team made me cross deserves an homage. I'm not in love, but I'm not screaming in agony either.

Arguably the least faithful, Mel Stuart’s 1971 Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory is comfortably the most loved, with Gene Wilder’s dark portrayal of the title role rightly revered. Not the worst film, but overrated at the very least. It's as though he didn't take the role seriously. Having sat and forced myself to watch the entire film hoping something good would happen I was left feeling nothing but empty. It is in every way a genuine Tim Burton-movie, stacked with beautiful imagery, wacky humor and bizarre characters, but at the same time faithful enough to the spirit of the novel.

Aided by his diminutive Oompa Loompa workers (Deep Roy), Wonka has a hidden motivation for the tour, one that he will reveal only after the children in the group show their true colors. First of all, Johnny Depp does not display near the wit nor the charisma that Gene Wlider did in the original.

The subterranean caverns of the Wonka factory are evoked through projections (by Jon Driscoll) that have the dark intricacy of Piranesi drawings.

Depp, an actor of considerable gifts, has never been afraid to take a chance, but this time he takes the wrong one. The show also depends on delayed gratification. He even matched the facial expressions to the drawings, especially in the case of Charlie's family.
